Ray M. of Palm Springs, CA hired our company to replace all of the windows and doors in his condominium with Milgard Tuscany series vinyl windows and doors. All of the windows except for one were a standard retrofit installation. However, one of the doors that he wanted us to install did not exist. He had a wall in the kitchen where he wanted a door, but to do that we first needed to create the opening.
Opening up the wall is not as easy as simply cutting a hole and installing a door. We first had to retain the services of a licensed structural engineer to come out to inspect the property. He then did the load calculations and created a set of plans that we took to the city for the permitting process.
Once permits were issued, we were ready to begin. The primary challenge with this job was keeping the look of every door and window consistant. Becasue the other doors and windows we were replacing were retrofit, we needed to use a retrofit door on this new opening as well so that they would all look the same. But when creating a new opening, traditionally we would use a nail-fin or "new construction" door. This does not have the decorative flange on the outside that the retrofit door has, and if used here would look quite different than everything else we had installed.
The solution to this was to create a faux aluminum frame that we could retrofit into. To do this, we installed metal J-Channel and flashed that in just like a window frame. Then, we repaired the stucco and were able to install a retrofit door.
But before any of this could be done, we had to frame the opening. The engineer called out for a new header, as well as new 4 x 4 posts that would act as king studs. These were to be anchored to the existing concrete slab with special concrete anchors and epoxy. This process is critical to the strength of the framing, and requires a special inspector to come out and watch while we drill the slab, apply the epoxy and install the concrete bolts to ensure it is done correctly.
We did that as well as framed the opening, patched the stucco and installed the doors in just three days! This included the construction as well as the concrete, framing, stucco and final inspections. One of the things that made this go so smoothly was the cith of Palm Springs. Their building and safety department were truly professional every step of the way.
We are proud to have been a part of this project, and it really turned out spectacularly.
G. Perez, from Moreno Valley, wanted to replace her original entry door for her home. She wasn't sure at first what she wanted so, we showed her some samples that we had.
She decided to go with the El & El 2 Panel Vinyl French Door with Sidelites. She was looking for an elegant and sophisticated door style and this was an excellent choice.
The challenge that our installers faced was having to widen the entrance way in order for Perez's new door to fit. The installation crew did a great job by creating a new frame for the french door and then put up drywall to patch up the frame.
The new door looked great and the 2 sidelites allow for more sunlight to shine through, which is a feature that Mrs. Perez just loved.
K. McHugh, from Norco, wanted to replace all of the windows and patio doors in his home with new upgraded models. He chose to replace them with brand new Milgard Tuscany windows and doors.
The challenge here was installing all of the various window and patio door models that he wanted for his home. He wanted to install double vent windows, picture windows, single hung windows, half vent windows, 2-panel sliding doors, and a 4-panel sliding door.
The sliding patio door for the living room was probably the most challenging from this project. The team had to convert a 2-panel door space into a wider 4-panel door space. Creating a new frame and drywall patching was necessary.
However, the installers took the task head on and did an amazing job. It took them 2 short days to get it done and the finished outcome was great. Needless to say, the customer was thrilled.
S. Josker, from Hemet, wanted to replace all 7 windows in her mobile home. Her original windows were a little outdated, so she wanted to add a new and modern look to her home.
Which is no suprise that she decided to replace her windows with Simonton Daylight Max windows. Each window came with Craftsman Stucco Flange frames that really added the modern touch of style she was looking for.
The windows for both bedrooms were unable to fit, which caused our installation team to have to cut down the original wall frames for the windows. A jamb extension also had to be installed to secure both windows in place.
With steady precision and work, our awesome team of installers was able to get the job done. In result, our customer was very grateful and her mobile home turned out great!

The installed glass helps reduce harmful UV rays from entering, allowing Mr. Deckard to save on energy costs during the hot Summers. Along with saving him money, the Milgard windows provide a modernized look for Mr. Deckard's home.
There was one hiccup our install team faced while trying to complete this job. Mr. Deckard's original windows had a trim around them that had built up water stains underneath. Although not damaging to the new windows, it wasn't visually appealing.
The new window frames were able to cover up most of the stains but Mr. Deckard planned on repainting his house anyway. The Milgard windows provide their own retro style frames that are sure to complement this home when it is complete.
